ANDREW SCOTT
Date of Birth: October 21, 1976
Born in Dublin, Ireland, Andrew Scott is best known for his role as Jim Moriarty on the TV series Sherlock, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.
Andrew has appeared in a number of films throughout his career, most notably the Bond film Spectre (2015), the fantasy sequel Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016), and the true-story drama Denial (2016).
He showed an early interest in acting, taking drama classes starting at age eight. At 17, Andrew landed his first onscreen role in the independent Irish film Korea (1995).
At 18, Andrew enrolled in a drama program at Trinity College in Dublin, but dropped out after six months. He was chosen to become part of the Abbey Theatre, and performed in four plays there.
In 1997 he was back on screen in the independent Irish film Drinking Crude, which featured Colin Farrell in a small role. In 2000, Andrew moved to London, where his career began in earnest.
He was cast in an episode of the TV mini-series Band of Brothers, which was executive produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg.
Over the years, Andrew has continued to return to his theatrical roots, appearing on Broadway in 2006 in David Hare's The Vertical Hour alongside Bill Nighy and Julianne Moore. He has also won two Laurence Olivier awards for his work onstage in A Girl in a Car With a Man in 2005 and in the Royal Court Theatre 2010 production of Cock.
For his work as the evil Professor Moriarty on the popular British TV series Sherlock, Andrew won a 2012 BAFTA Supporting Actor award.
Andrew, who is openly gay, lives in London with his partner, whose identity he keeps secret.
