JEFF BRIDGES

Date of Birth: December 4, 1949

Considered one of the most talented but least rewarded movie stars, the son of actor Lloyd Bridges made his screen debut at the age of four months in the 1950 melodrama The Company She Keeps; his older brother in that film was played by real life older brother Beau. The younger Bridges made a more formal debut before the cameras at age 8, in an episode of his dad's TV series Sea Hunt.

He had his first major success at 22 with a leading role in The Last Picture Show (1971), for which he received an Academy Award nomination. Two years later, he won yet another Oscar nomination, this time for Best Supporting Actor in Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974).

Bridges worked steadily throughout the rest of the 1970s, starring in a number of films including Hearts of the West (1975) and Stay Hungry (1976). The 1980s brought further triumph: In 1984, Bridges starred in the romantic hit Against All Odds and won yet another Oscar nomination for his leading role in Starman. He continued to find further acclaim for his work in such movies as Jagged Edge (1985), The Morning After (1986), Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988) and The Fabulous Baker Boys (1989). Acclaimed performances in the 90's followed with The Fisher King (1991), Fearless (1993), American Heart (1995) (which also marked his producing debut), The Mirror Has Two Faces (1996) and The Big Lebowski (1998). In 1999, Bridges returned to the thriller milieu with Arlington Road, and then switched gears with Albert Brooks' comedy drama The Muse. Along with Sharon Stone and Nick Nolte, he starred in the stinker Simpatico (1999), but fared better in The Contender (2000), for which he received his fourth Academy Award nod. In the Oscar-nominated Seabiscuit (2003), he played real life Charles Howard, Seabiscuit's warm-hearted millionaire owner who took a risk on a scrawny horse with crooked legs.

In 2010, Bridges won his first Golden Globe award and finally, his first Academy Award for his starring role in Crazy Heart. His first film after the win was the blockbuster, Tron: Legacy. Since then he's appeared in True Grit (2010), for which he received yet another Academy Award nomination, and the action comedy R.I.P.D. (2013), opposite Ryan Reynolds.

Most recently, he starred in Hell or High Water (2016) which earned him numerous nominations for Best Performance By An Actor in a Supporting Role, including nominations from the Academy Awards, BAFTA Awards, Golden Globe Awards and the SAG Awards.

Bridges is married to photographer Susan Geston, whom he met in 1975 while working on Rancho Deluxe. They have three daughters.
